Every procedure follows the same shape, so you can tell at a glance whether you are in the right place.

Before you begin	Prerequisites, stated up front rather than discovered at step six
Steps	Numbered, one action each. A step containing “and” is split
Result	What you should see, so you know it worked
If this does not work	The likeliest causes, then a route to a person
